I am my mother’s child.
It has become clear to me, now more than ever, that I’m JUST like her.

My mother ...
- who spent 4 sleep-less nights in 1997, crying over the death of Princess Diana.
- who subscribes to Hello! Magazine only to see what her friends “The Royals” have been up to.
- who has taken the day off work tomorrow, bought 4 packets of giant cheese curls, a 2 L gingerbeer, a gazillion strawberries and some cheap Champagne … to watch the Royal Wedding.
- who is absolutely and completely obsessed.

And so am I.

I’m not sure if it’s because I got engaged around the same time as they did, or if it’s just years of mumsies obsessive compulsive royal disorder that’s rubbing off on me … but I’m hooked. I’ve even managed to convince the boss man to give us a half-day tomorrow so we can watch it. YAY!

I’ve been following the whole thing on sky news since they got engaged. I know it sounds a little sordid, but there’s just something about them that is so intriguing. I guess it’s the whole “princess’ vibe and maybe it’s a little bit of jealousy too. Not that I’d ever want to marry William. He looks like a complete bore.  But you know what I mean.

I can’t wait to see her for the first time.
I may even cry.

Work-Aholic? I think not.

I think it’s safe to say that today, I am one of about 50 South Africans, who are stuck at work on this glorious Tuesday! Everyone else was smart enough to put in their leave and take advantage of these long weekends. I hope the heavens open and it starts raining big balls of mushy porridge on you all. Buggery! I guess even if I had acted quickly, I would never have gotten these days off – what with -15 days leave after only 6 months with the company! Oopsie.

So, while all my friends are at the beach enjoying life, I’m here, at my desk, doing absolutely no work at all.  Instead, I’m busy trying to write my MC speech for a good friend’s wedding this Saturday. Every 2 minutes or so I get really excited at the prospect of being a female MC at her special wedding. Big role and bigger responsibility, with a very tough crowd to control and please. But a great honour nonetheless.

Then every other 2 minutes I say to myself? “Self … why in the name of Gucci did you ever agree to do this?!?!?!?!”

Eish! I must remember to get some rescue drops. They taste just like tequila, so should calm my nerves down to a flat panic. Oh good grief, just thinking about it gives me chicken flesh. Eeeeek.

Need a distraction! IMMEDIATELY!

Ok found one.

Love this site. You can always discover the coolest bits, bobs and links.
Some pretty, some daft and some completely arb.
Like these:

Some more juicy bits by Eduardo Recife.
He designs his own fonts and typefaces.
Love Love Love

Eduardo Recife is one of my most favouritist illustrator slash crayon monkey slash cut and paste mastermind, like, EVER! And how exciting that he’s got some new stuff up on his website here. It’s all a bit spooky, with vintage children and dolls and weird cut outs of weird people, but it’s also a bit brilliant. I think you either like it or you don’t. And I really do!

Another brilliant ad – one of my all time favourites.

Rainbow Roses

Ever heard of rainbow roses?
Nope … me neither.

But they exist, and I can’t make up my mind as to whether they’re serioulsy over the top queen of kitsch or really cool and possibly a gorgeously perfect fit to my colour-crazy wedding plans?! Hmmmm.

I'm confused

What a really cool, really quirky campaign done by none other than French Connection United Kingdom. As a writer, I love the headlines. They’re so bizarre - what's not to love. They're the kind of phrases you’d use over and over again in a Tarzan voice. Me Tarzan … You Jane …  Eat Meat … Dress Well …

Or not … whatever.
Just look

Good Morning and happy Monday to all.

I'm finding it very difficult to type. I sliced my finger open while attempting to cut open a packet of popcorn seeds. Why I felt it necessary to use the sharpest, biggest knife in the house, is beyond me.
So if you see any spelling errors - more than usual - it's not my fault. I blame my obsession with popcorn.

But what a fabulous weekend I've had. All the girls together again after 10 years. Eeek.
The best 2 weeks, like, ever!

And now it's all over and another Monday tries to knock the wind out of us all.
But it's ok. Happy positive thoughts people ... because the week is short, the winter chill is refreshing and the gorgeous sun is still out. I love summer. But I also love the memories that come with winter. Early morning sports games at school, being woken up by the fresh air on my way to early morning lectures on campus. Weekends up in the Berg, wonderful winter weddings in the midlands, wooly socks, fluffy scarves, cold hands and warm drinks ...
So Hello Monday. I WIN!

Ok back to work now worker drones.
I have just this left to say:

done by me

Ok so I know winter is literally on our sun-bathed doorsteps, but I’ve always thought it’s the best time to buy a swimming cossie. The overseas brands are bringing out their spring and summer collections and it’s always floral and feminine and fantabulous. And, if you prefer local surf brands, then winter is definitely the best time to buy a new cossie because everything is on sale.

Hmmm … it’s also end of the range sales, so maybe I am not the best person to get fashion buying advice from. But regardless, I want to buy myself a full cossie. I tried one on the other day, and while I did feel slightly more sexy in a Black Country Road  Low Back Ribboned One Piece … the simple fact that my boep stuck out more than my boobs did … made me reconsider.

But I can still browse, right?

These are from J Crew. And so much of pretty to look at.

Born To Be Wild

I must admit … I do love a good movie.
Mumsie and I used to go EVERY Saturday morning to the 10 o'clock show at Pavilion while I was at high school. It was our "thing" and it started with a coffee and a giant size muffin from Mugg & Bean that we'd share, followed by two small popcorns, a coke and a fanta (mumsie likes to be different) and would always end with an even giant-er piece of Peppermint Crisp Cream Delight from the restaurant at the top of the escalator. Oh Golly how I miss THOSE days. The days of slotting and lazing and no cellulite.

SIGH!

But I digress.
I watched this trailer on Friday. It looks like such a fabulous film. It's about orphaned animals that are incorporated back into the world, after they are nursed to health by a group of caring individuals. Looks really heart-warming. Great to watch at the IMAX. Should we go?

Welcome Baba Kingsley

So in honour of the newest most cutest addition to our family tree – little Kingsley Vivienne Jones – I decided to do some scouting for beautiful baby rooms. The Big Sis hasn’t yet had a chance to do up little Kingsley’s future room, so I think I might have to show her these fabulous examples, found here
